Event Details
2017 will mark the centenary of the publication of On Growth and Form by D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson, who was not only professor of natural history in both Dundee and St Andrews for 64 years, but was also a brilliant classicist, mathematician and local eccentric, a great character and polymath. His book has had a major impact on a number of disciplines, especially mathematical biology, and it has never been out of print. The University of St Andrews Special Collections and the University of Dundee Museum Services are working together to celebrate the centenary, exploring the relationship between D’Arcy Thompson and art and literature through a number of projects, including this creative writing workshop at StAnza. Eddie Small, who is tutor of the creative writing programme at Dundee University, will lead a creative writing workshop informed and inspired by the life and times, and the work of D’Arcy Thompson. This affords an exciting opoprtunity to indulge yourself in poetry or performance writing, or even prose. Come and discover the many facets to the man, and find your own way of writing about these discoveries.
